Former Melrose captain Scott Wight has many years’ experience in professional and international rugby. Having played for Glasgow Warriors for three seasons, Scott made his international sevens debut in Las Vegas in 2014 and went on to represent Scotland in the Commonwealth Games squad later that year. He has since led the national squad out around the world as captain and played an integral role in steering Scotland to their first ever World Series title at Twickenham in May 2016. The last two minutes of the final against South Africa has been described by many as the most exciting passage of play in the history of rugby sevens.
Scott is highly regarded as a coach and holds a Level 3 UKCC coaching qualification. He's spent time working as a development officer, provided Melrose 1st XV with specialist coaching in the 2014/15 season and now plans to climb the coaching ladder with the goal of becoming a professional coach. Having won the Scottish Premier League, the Border League and two Melrose Sevens titles, Scott knows what it takes to be a winner, which undoubtedly rubs off on the athletes he coaches.
Olympic silver medallist and strength and conditioning specialist Mark Robertson has more than a decade of professional rugby experience under his belt, having represented the Border Reivers, Edinburgh Rugby and Scotland A before moving into international sevens. He has now spent five years travelling around the world representing Scotland on the international circuit.
A former Melrose player, Mark was one of only two Scots included in the GB rugby sevens squad that won silver in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games - the first time rugby has been included in the Olympics since 1924. Since his return, he has been heavily involved in supporting and inspiring children across the country to pursue their goals in sport.
Mark is a sports science graduate, holds a MSc from Edinburgh University, a UKSCA accredited coaching qualification and has completed UKCC rugby coaching certificates level 1 and 2. He has spent two years coaching young players with George Heriots School in Edinburgh and was previously head backs coach with Peebles RFC in the Scottish Borders.
Mark has also spent valuable time with St Vincent Sports Performance in the US, learning about specialist coaching and the training techniques of NBA and NFL players.
